THE LIBERTY CLUB

Logline: A Greek American WWII paratrooper meets and marries a French beauty from a dysfunctional family, only to find they both have to confront his wandering eye.

Synopsis: It’s 1938 and fourteen year old Johnny is captivated with his Greek immigrant father, Gus’s, endearing tale of setting eyes for the first time on Lady Liberty.  As Independence Day rolls around a small town parade marches by, and with it, the celebration overflows into Gus’s bar, the Liberty Club.

Fast forward to 1942, the Liberty Club has become home-away-from-home for charismatic Johnny and younger brother Nick helping ‘Pops” after school, and entertaining the patrons with beer keg races and family banter. Later at a Greek party a man mentions his son has enlisted into the Army. In a heart-to-heart, Johnny confides in his father that he and his brother are also prepared to “leave all this behind” and fight for their country.

An ocean away Mademoiselle Monique, a young naive French beauty, lives a nightmare existence under German occupation. But the Nazi’s aren’t her only torment, as her family treads lightly under the abuse of Monique’s alcoholic father.

Meanwhile, Johnny is baptized into war after shooting his first German soldier on the front lines of Anzio. When he and thousands of fellow paratroopers parachute behind enemy lines in the South of France, Monique’s family and the other Niçois scramble to the hills for safety. After Nice is liberated a chance meeting brings the handsome pair together. The two are smitten and an innocent courtship follows, but war is a fast moving machine, and Johnny’s battalion drives on to continue the fight.

With good reason Monique is wrought with worry when she learns that her Johnny is fighting in the Ardennes – aka, the Battle of the Bulge. Dodging death at every turn miraculously Johnny survives, and soon they have a June wedding.  After the war, Monique is unable to secure passage on a Liberty Ship, so Johnny must return to America without her.  A hero’s welcome at the Liberty Club ensues, but Johnny’s old Tom-cat ways lead him astray.  He does the unthinkable and writes a Dear John letter to his wife still in France.  Act three determines the outcome of this true life story, and with it the the inner strength Monique musters to confront the man she loves – for better or worse.

WHEN THE WHISTLE BLOWS

LOGLINE: When an Oil refinery worker integrates a youth football team all hell breaks loose in a mid-western city.

Synopsis:What happens when a man attempts to field a little league football team in a small Midwestern city? Plenty –– when the year is 1964, and half of the potential team is black. Inspired by actual events, When the Whistle Blows is a nostalgic look back at an era when issues were often settled in black and white.

Everything seems fine when Bill Campbell, an oil refinery worker and local union member, attempts to form a fifth and sixth grade football team for his son to play on. Everything is fine that is, until Bill crosses the color boundary and begins to recruit black kids to play on his team. When Bill is forced to confront angry parents and his reluctant assistant, the die is cast. Bill must make a stand, after all his son is watching.

Meanwhile on the “rich side of town” Darrell Phipps, Bill Campbell’s arch nemesis is about to field another championship team, or so he thinks! And as one of Bill’s co-workers emphatically puts it, “…Darrell doesn’t like to lose.” But the tension escalates when the Oilers begin to win, and the devil of racism emerges once again. Darrell, it seems will stop at nothing in order to gain the prize. And when the Oilers incredible star athlete, Charles Taylor, becomes a target of intimidation, all hell breaks loose! Justice, it seems, can and must be found in the final game as the two undefeated teams clash on a field of dreams. The ending is as unpredictable as the emotions of the day, and can only be found if you read it!

THE IRON HORSE OF LUCY STEELE – Western-adventure

LOGLINE: After a ruthless outlaw steals the fastest train in the West, its gutsy female engineer must stop him from pulling off the biggest heist in US history.

Synopsis: Many throughout the American frontier have heard of the legendary engine #88 – The Fastest Train in the West – run by rough-and-tumble engineer Lucy Steele. Following in the footsteps of her late beloved father, the man who taught her everything she knows about trains, to say Lucy has dedicated her life to this train would be putting it mildly.

After she outshoots and outruns an attack by bandits, the Army recruits Lucy for a top-secret mission to deliver a set of new Treasury Department printing plates to San Francisco – a thousand-mile journey across a harsh, unforgiving landscape teeming with bloodthirsty scavengers and cutthroat desperadoes.

But things get off to a bad start when notorious outlaw Prentiss Nash and his gang steal #88 as part of their masterplan to get the plates for themselves. Making things worse, Nash is the one responsible for killing Lucy’s father. As much as she would like to get #88 back, the idea of exacting revenge against Nash is extremely appealing.

Thus begins Lucy’s perilous odyssey through the West, where her constant struggle to not only survive but endure any and every ordeal is put to the test.  Driven by loyalty to her father and a desire for revenge, Lucy is determined to do whatever it takes in order to get her train back and see justice done.
